Larreastat's advantage over other Larrea-Based products

The availability of Larrea-based products in mass market and chain health food stores is severely limited. While independently owned health food stores may carry a restricted supply of Larrea-based products, these products do not produce the same anti-viral results as LarreastatTM. Existing oral supplements typically utilize the entire leaf of the plant to grind and encapsulate. As a result, performance is limited because these products are not readily absorbed into the digestive tract. More importantly, toxins have been associated with these types of products. LarreastatT possesses a tremendous advantage in that the patented processing method allows more complete absorption and alleviates the potentially harmful toxins, leaving it safe for use as a dietary supplement or topically applied remedy.

In 1995, a case report was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. (Gordon, et.al. 1995). The article entitled, "Chaparral Ingestion; The Broadening Spectrum of Liver Injury Caused by Herbal Medications", attacked "unconventional medical practices, including the use of herbal remedies". The purported toxic chemical metabolite occurring in Larrea tridentata has been identified by FDA scientists (Obermeyer, et. al., 1995) and previously by Mabry, et. al. (1977) as nordihydroguaiaretic acid ortho di-a-b-unsaturated quinone (NDGA quinone), which is found in variable amounts in raw chaparral herb. Briefly, NDGA quinone is a natural oxidation product of the major lignan constituent from Larrea tridentata, known as nordihydroguaiaretic acid (NDGA). It is produced by the action of sunlight and atmospheric oxygen interacting with the NDGA that occurs in the external leaf resin. Additionally, production of NDGA quinone may be enhanced during the processing (i.e. milling or grinding) and storage of raw chaparral herb. NDGA quinone most probably serves the plant as a toxin to protect the plant from being eaten by herbivores. NDGA quinone is very reactive toward many biochemicals in the body including proteins and DNA. NDGA quinone, like other toxic quinones, has the ability to cause cellular damage by irreversibly binding to enzymes and DNA, thereby causing cellular systems to malfunction.

Unquestionably Safe

To virtually eliminate any risk of liver injury and in order to make Larrea tridentata unquestionably safe and beneficial for routine supplementation purposes, the scientists at Larreacorp, Ltd. expanded their research to accomplish three important milestones:

Isolate the beneficial, active chemical components from Larrea tridentata in a useful, standardized form
Identify and remove potentially hepatotoxic compounds from the isolated chemicals
Incorporate ingredients to inhibit the formation of potentially hepatotoxic compounds during normal detoxification metabolism in the human body.

In order to comply with the recommendations of the American Herbal Products Association regarding ingestible products containing Larrea tridentata, the following precautionary wording is currently included on the label of oral dietary supplements containing LarreastatTM. "Seek advice from a health care practitioner before use if you have had or may have had liver disease. Discontinue use if any unusual symptoms such as nausea, fever, fatigue, abdominal pain or jaundice (e.g. dark urine, yellow discoloration of the eyes or skin) should occur."
